Can I Get a Mortgage After I File Bankruptcy?
One of the most common myths surrounding bankruptcy is that if you file bankruptcy, you won’t be able to get a home loan for 10 years. This simply isn’t correct. In fact, you can get a home loan as soon as two years after you file bankruptcy.
If you are filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and you’ve never had a home foreclosed, you can qualify for an FHA/HUD loan two years after you receive your Chapter 7 discharge. If you did have a foreclosure, you can still qualify for a home loan either two years after the Chapter 7 discharge to three years after the foreclosure (whichever event occurs later).
Don’t let bankruptcy myths keep you from filing. If you want to purchase a home in the future, but can’t pay your bills now, bankruptcy may be the right option for you. Call me today for a free consultation (314) 802-8328
